If the August heat seemed exceptionally unbearable this year, even by Louisiana standards, there’s a good reason why.

“August 2010 was the hottest August on record,” said Nick Fillo, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Shreveport. “We trumped the previous record, which was set back in 1951.”

Four seats in play for School Board PDF Print E-mail

While the majority of the members of the Webster Parish School Board were unopposed in the upcoming October 2 election, voters in four of the districts will have to go to the polls.

District 1, in the northern-most part of the parish, is one of those areas.

With fall fast approaching, and use of the Day Use Area at Caney Lakes begining to decrease, the USDA Forest Service, Caney Ranger District, look toward closure for the season.

“This time of year, the use dramatically decreases, making year-long maintenance impracticial,” said Jim Caldwell, public affairs officer.

Fayrine Kennon-Gilbert has announced her candidacy for re-election to Minden City Council, District B.

“When I was elected as city council representative of District B, I promised my constituents I would serve as their voice on the city council,” Kennon-Gilbert said. “I have effectively done so.”

Sibley boil advisory lifted PDF Print E-mail

The boil advisory for residents on the Town of Sibley Water System was lifted at 11 a.m. September 1.

The boil advisory was issued Monday following a water main break that left residents without water for several hours during repair.
