C.’s parents as well as my mother, freezing eleven bushels of peas, three hundred ears of corn, canning sixteen dozen jars of fig preserves, and making 38 jars of Mayhaw Jelly each year and to have all that stop suddenly, life takes a downward turn, and so does your emotions. As a little girl, I went there with my mother who bought her groceries there. She charged them and once a month she paid the bill. Later I began to buy material there. As you entered the store immediately you saw all the beautiful bolts of cloth that they stocked. Be first to comment this article | Views: 78 |

Recently, a lady who did not grow up in Minden, remarked that she appreciated me talking of old businesses that are gone, and their location. And last week, a man who is almost my age stopped me and told me how much he likes to remember the old stores and the people who worked there. I do, too, and so I am continuing some more of my thoughts of what “was” and is now gone. Be first to comment this article | Views: 83 |
