When we talk about the “good ole days” we need to remember that not everything was better than today. We remember many things with such a “rosy” glow, but there are many things that cause a “rosy” glow to come to my face with embarrassment.

Do you remember Burma Shave signs? Frank Rowsome, Jr., wrote a book entitled “The Verse by the Side of the Road” which recalls the signs of my childhood, as I remember reading Burma Shave signs such as:

HE PLAYED / A SAX / HAD NO B.O. / BUT HIS WHISKERS SCRATCHED / SO SHE LET HIM GO or maybe the sign said: THE ANSWER TO / A MAIDEN’S PRAYER/ IS NOT A CHIN / OF STUBBY HAIR.

A knock on the front door announced that the gypsies were back.

There stood two or three swarthy, flashily dressed people with baskets, cheaply made, of paper flowers, and other things like jewelry, all garish in their colors.

The gazebo in the park downtown is pretty with the landscaping and the brick walkway. It reminds us of the old gazebo that once stood in the downtown park.
