Chamber moves forward in search PDF Print E-mail

The Minden-South Webster Chamber of Commerce is moving forward in its search for a president.

In a pair of mass emails sent Thursday to all chamber members, board chair-elect Gina Almond stated the organization hopes to combine the positions of chamber president and economic developer.

The two positions were recently vacated by Jason E. Ebey and Jon Maynard, respectively.

The chamber board is working closely with the City of Minden and the South Webster Industrial District to fund the position.

While leaders from each entity have discussed the issue in great detail, there remains several logistical issues to iron out before proceeding to the interview and hiring phase.

“It still needs to go through the process of final confirmation,” said Almond. “While it is no secret that we wish to combine the position, we are not ready to advertise this position. As soon as we get the final approval and everyone has officially signed off, we will get that information out.”

The chamber board, city council and SWID board must all agree on the proposal before a candidate is hired.
By joining the positions, Almond said the chamber would be able to offer a higher salary range and better benefits package to job applicants.

“Now, I am completing the job description,” Almond said. “Somewhere around seven to nine candidates have already submitted resumes or letters. This all came after word got out that we were ‘considering’ combining the positions and the salary/benefits would be raised.”

Almond said interest shown in the proposed new combined position has already exceeded that shown previously for the singular position of chamber president.

“I find this very encouraging, especially since that interest has come based on the ‘possibility’ of a position,” Almond said. “I expect to see even more.”

Almond stressed that while the chamber is excited about the possibilities accompanying this new position, the contract is not yet completed.
