Six public schools are playing tonight because schools will be closed Friday This isn’t your typical Thursday for Bossier Parish football teams. All six public high schools are playing games tonight because the schools will be closed Friday for fall break. Airline plays host to Southwood in a District 1-4A game. In District 1-4A, Benton plays host to Bossier High and Haughton plays host to Parkway. In District 1-A, Plain Dealing plays host to Sarepta.
All games start at 7 p.m. Benton carries a 4-0 record into tonight’s game, and is ranked No. 3 in Class 4A by the Louisiana Sports Writers’ Assn. for the second week in a row. The Tigers’ district victories are over Haughton (34-14) and Woodlawn (33-14). All-Stater Casey Henderson is Benton’s offensive workhorse with 57 carries for 405 yards and four touchdowns. Bossier is 2-3 overall and 0-2 in district play, with victories over Northwood-Lena (28-0) and Mansfield (52-13). The Bearkats’ district losses are to Parkway (49-20) and Fair Park (19-14). Haughton is 4-1 for the season and 1-1 in district play. The Bucs’ lone loss was to Benton. They are coming off a 28-14 district win at Minden last week. Haughton has been ranked as high as No. 6 in Class 4A in the sports writers’ poll, but was No. 11 this week. For the third week in a row, sophomore Dakota Prescott will be the Bucs’ starting quarterback. Matt Smith, who was the All-District and All-Bossier quarterback last season, has been sidelined by a broken finger in his throwing hand, but Prescott has turned in impressive performances in his three starts. Parkway, riding a four-game winning streak since a season-opening 30-27 loss to Byrd (which is ranked No. 8 in 5A) has scored more than 40 points in each of its last three games. It is the first time any Parkway team has done that. Those games include district wins over Bossier (49-12) and Northwood (49-20). Nobody has scored 40 points against Haughton since a 41-37 playoff loss to Eunice in 2005, and only one team (Benton) has scored more than 21 points against Coach Rodney Guin’s Bucs this season. Airline carries a 2-3 record into tonight’s game with Southwood, which is 0-5 and has allowed 37 or more points in all five games. The Cowboys are expecting to snap that streak tonight, as Airline has not scored more than 24 points in any of its first five games this season. Plain Dealing will be looking for its first victory of the season tonight when the Lions face 1-4 Sarepta, whose only victory was a 20-12 decision over 0-5 Lakeside. Their only common opponent is Arcadia, which crushed Plain Dealing 58-12 last week and beat Sarepta 36-7 in their season opener. Views: 480
