An area woman died October 30 as a result of a pedestrian/automobile accident.

According to police reports, on October 13 Valery Green was struck by a 1995 white Ford Escort driven by 19-year-old Jasmine Cooksey, while Cooksey was traveling North on Talton Street.

The accident occurred when Green, who was on foot stepped out in front of Cooksey’s car at the corner of Talton and Woods Streets.

“The car did not pass over the victim,” said Minden Police Chief T.C. Bloxom, Jr.

A police investigation revealed the point of impact took place between the bumper of Cooksey’s vehicle and Green. Upon impact Green’s body bounced with her head hitting and breaking the front windshield of the car.

“Green was found a short distance from where the impact occurred,” Bloxom said. “It appears Cooksey never hit her brakes. We found no visible skid marks.”

Bloxom said, Marilyn Brown, of the 1000 block of Talton Street, informed officers that she and Green had been drinking heavily and had engaged in an argument when Green left the house prior to the accident.

“There was no indication Cooksey had been drinking or driving at an excessive speed,” Bloxom said. “Cooksey was administered a Breathalyzer test, followed by a blood test to confirm she had not been drinking.”

Cooksey was cited for no proof of insurance and leaving the scene of an accident.

“The accident appears to have been unavoidable, Green stepped out in the road in front of the vehicle,” Bloxom said.

Green was transported to Minden Medical Center and later transferred to LSU Medical Center.
