Military personnel banned from local establishments Military personnel stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base will have to be selective about where they have a good time. The following establishments have been defined as off limits and out of bounds for all military personnel assigned to the base: Rockin Rodeo, 1003 Gould Dr., Bossier City; Pipes Emporium at 1304 Centenary, Shreveport; and Kokopellis, 630 Commerce St., Shreveport. Military personnel are prohibited from entering the off-limits establishments or areas.
“The commander has to take security measures to make sure air force personnel stay safe. He deemed these to be off limits to protect base airmen and their families,” said Sgt. Jerome Baysmore, non-commissioned officer in charge of 2nd Bomb Wing Public Affairs. There are no specific criteria as to how these establishments are picked, as opposed to other, similar establishments. Base officials look into alleged incidents on a case-by-case basis and make their decision on what is best for the airmen. “The underlying cause is always safety,” Baysmore said. Violators may be subject to disciplinary action under the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Punishment may include restriction to base, reduction in grade, fines or forfeitures. The list of out of bounds establishments is reviewed and changed periodically. “The base is part of the community and we work with local law enforcement to review the list from time to time and change it if need be,” said Baysmore. The off limit boundaries will be in place until further notice. “All service members know that when it comes down to policy, that’s how it is. There’s no right or left,” said Baysmore. Views: 1038
