Bossier Parish Community College swept a softball doubleheader with Holmes Community College at Goodman, MS., Saturday for the 300th victory in Coach Ashley Grisham’s 11 seasons as head coach.

The Lady Cavs won the first game 3-1 in seven innings and won the second game 7-3 in seven innings, boosting their season record to 11-7 and Grisham’s career record to 300-231-8.

Danielle Jones was the winning pitcher in the first game. Jones, 5-3 for the season, allowed two hits and two walks in seven innings, and struck out four batters.

Erica Gunter was three-for-three and scored two runs. Charday Wilson was two-for-three and drove in two runs.

Brittney Chreene was the winning pitcher in Grishasm’s 300th victory. She allowed four hits in five innings, evening her record at 2-2. Le-ethel Guillory pitched the last two innings.

Ashley Fair was two-for-four with a solo home run and two-run home run, giving her a team-leading season total of eight homers. Erica Gunter had a two-run single for the Lady Cavs.

When Grisham took over the coaching reins in 1999, BPCC had no victories in the previous season and only two victories (both over Wiley College) in the two-year history of the school’s softball program.

Her first two teams set school records with a 12-35-1 record in 1999 and a 19-26-1 record in 2000.

Her third team was 34-15-2, and the only losing season since then was a 25-26 campaign in 2003. In their last four seasons, the Lady Cavs’ win totals have ranged from 28 last season to 40 (twice, in 2005 and 2007).

Monday, BPCC swept two games from Hinds, winning the first 11-3 and the second  3-2.

Jones was the winning pitcher in the first game, improving her season record to 6-3 as she allowed seven hits and three walks, and struck out five batters. Gunter hit her seventh home run of the season and Fair was three-for-five.

Guillory got the decision in the second game, allowing seven hits anjd two walks. Maddison Roncketto led the BPCC hitters as she was two-for-four with two runs.

Now 13-7, BPCC goes to Lon Morris Wednesday.
