Graduation ceremonies are in full swing around Webster Parish. The following is a look at the top graduates of each high school. Be sure and check out the special graduation edition inserted in your Thursday Minden Press-Herald. Congratulations to all of these seniors and their classmates.
Minden High School Daniel James Hutto, 18, has been named Minden High School’s 2009 Valedictorian. Daniel has achieved a 4.0 grade point average during his high school career and plans to further his education, seeking a degree in Biblical Studies and History at Louisiana College. Daniel is the recipient of the Louisiana College Top 30 Scholarship, the WMU Scholarship and the Elks State Scholarship. He has been recognized as Parish Student of the Year and Who’s Who in Social Studies. Throughout his high school career, Daniel has served as Vice President of First Priority, Secretary of the National Honor Society, participated in Quiz Bowl and was a member of Future Business Leaders of America. Daniel is the son of Max and Patty Hutto of Minden. He is the grandson of Jean Elliott of Gonzales and Mavis Hutto of Monroe. Catherine Heller, 18, is the 2009 Salutatorian for Minden High School. Catherine has achieved a 4.0 grade point average during her high school career and plans to further her education, seeking a psychology degree from Louisiana State University-Shreveport. Catherine is the recipient of the LSUS Red River Scholarship, the University Court Housing Scholarship, the Sam Walton Community Scholarship and the LSUS High School Senior Award Scholarship. She has been named Webster Parish Senior Scholar, Who’s Who in Science and was the recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Award. During her high school career, Catherine was a member of the Yearbook Staff, Student Council, National Honor Society, Nature Club, National Society of High School Scholars, ACTEENS, Prom Committee, First Priority, NLAHEC, was a Girls State Delegate, and a member of FBLA, SADD and Teachers of Tomorrow. Catherine is the daughter of Laurie Heller of Minden. She is the granddaughter of Jo Heller of Joaquin, Texas. Lakeside High School Cody James Killian, 17, is the 2009 Valedictorian at Lakeside High School. Cody will graduate with a 4.0 grade point average and will pursue a bio-medical engineering degree at Louisiana Tech University. Cody is the recipient of the Louisiana Tech Outstanding Student Scholarship, the Principal’s Award and has been named Who’s Who. During his four-year high school career, Cody was selected for Boys State, was a member of Future Business Leaders of America, serving as Vice President, was a member of Student Council, served as Yearbook Editor, was President of the National Honor Society, a member of the Quiz Bowl Team, the Travel Club, and Expanded Horizons, participated in Day With the Docs, and participated in the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership and Area Health Education Center programs. Cody is the son of Rickey and Dawn Killian of Sibley. He is the grandson of Delores Killian of Wichita Falls, Texas and Linda and Jim Davies of Baton Rouge. Hannah Grantham, 18, has been named the 2009 Salutatorian at Lakeside High School. Hannah achieved a grade point average of 3.9 and intends to pursue a degree in Mass Communications at LSU-Baton Rouge. Hannah is the recipient of the LSU National Scholars Award, TOPS Honors Award, Chancellor’s Student Aide Scholarship, Principal’s Award, Best Buy Scholar’s Finalist and was named a member of the Academic All State Team. Throughout her high school career, Hannah has participated in Varsity Softball, Varsity Track and served as President of the Student Council, President of FBLA, Vice President of the National Honor Society, a member of Expanded Horizons, served as Class Treasurer, Fellowship of Christian Athletes Captain, was a Girls State Delegate and a Webster Parish Delegate in the La. National Mock Election. Hannah is the daughter of Dan and Nancy Grantham of Sibley. She is the granddaughter of Carolyn Greene of Magnolia, Ark. Glenbrook Kelsey Elizabeth Hunter has been named the 2009 Valedictorian at Glenbrook High School. Kelsey, 18, will graduate with a 4.28 grade point average and plans to pursue a Civil Engineering and Business degree at Tulane University. Kelsey is the recipient of the Legislative Scholarship, Distinguished Scholars Scholarship, the Valedictorian Scholarship and TOPS. During high school, Kelsey was a member of 4-H, Future Business Leaders of America, the National Honor Society, Student Council, served as Class Treasurer, was a member of Quiz Bowl, the Tennis Team, Dance Line and Cross-Country Team. Kelsey is the daughter of Don and Susan Hunter of Minden. She is the granddaughter of Joe and Polly Hunter and Vee Johnson, all of Minden. Kyndall Ardoin is the 2009 Salutatorian at Glenbrook High School. Kyndall, 17, will graduate with a 4.10 grade point average and intends to study Pre-Law at the University of Arizona. Kyndall is the recipient of a Full Golf Scholarship to the University of Arizona and was awarded the Arizona Excellence Award (a scholastic scholarship award for out-of-state students). During his high school career, Kyndall was a member of the Glenbrook Golf Team, the Glenbrook Basketball Team, the National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Students, the American Junior Golf Association and a member of the 2007 Rolex Junior All-American. Kyndall is the son of Challa and Ellen Ardoin of Gibsland. He is the grandson of Joe and Margaret Ardoin of Praireville and the late Lamar and Billie Dearing. Sarepta Kristin Paige Slack is the 2009 Valedictorian at Sarepta High School. Kristin, 18, is graduating with a 3.91 grade point average and plans to seek a Business Administration degree at Centenary College. Kristin is the recipient of the Scholar’s Award-Webster Parish Principal’s Association, the Academic Scholarship-Centenary College, Louisiana TOPS Scholarship, the Honesty and Integrity Award-Springhill Masonic Lodge, Louisiana Public Broadcasting-Young Heroes Award and was named Miss Sarepta High School, Who’s Who at Sarepta High School and Character Counts. During her four-year high school career, Kristin served as Vice President of FBLA, was a member of Quill and Scroll Honor Society for High School Journals, served as Vice President of the Beta Club, Yearbook Editor and Captain of the Pep-Squad. Kristin is the daughter of Jeff and Angela Slack of Sarepta. She is the granddaughter of Jerry and Sandy Slack of Sarepta and Emma Lou Slack of Springhill. Danna Lynn Hoskins, 17, is the 2009 Salutatorian at Sarepta High School. Danna, 17, achieved a 3.5 grade point average during her four years at Sarepta and she intends to further her career at Bossier Parish Community College and Northwestern State University-Shreveport, seeking a Nursing degree. Danna is the recipient of TOPS and was named Student of the Year, Sarepta’s Who’s Who, was crowned Fair Princess, Sarepta High School Most Beautiful, received 1st Place at the FBLA District Rally in Current Events and Job Interview, Place 3rd at the Parish Quiz Bowl, received 4th Place in the State FBLA Conference in Current Events, was a member of Quill and Scroll National Honors Society and was a Junior Homecoming Maid. During her high school career, Danna performed with the Dance Line, serving as co-captain in her junior year, was a member of the Band, was a Varsity Cheerleader, Editor of the Yearbook, played Softball, served as FBLA President as well as BETA Club President and participated in Quiz Bowl. Danna is the daughter of John and Mary Hoskins of Sarepta. She is the granddaughter of Floyd and Janie Hoskins of Haughton and Mary McCutcheon of Frisco, Texas. Doyline High School Frederick Banks, Jr. is the 2009 Valedictorian at Doyline High School. Frederick, 18, will graduate with a 4.0 grade point average. He intends to major in Biology (pre-dentistry) at Louisiana State University-Shreveport. Frederick is the recipient of the LSUS Blue and Golf Scholarship, the LSUS Valedictorian Scholarship, the Temple-Inland Foundation Scholarship, TOPS Opportunity Award, Mega Fraternity Scholarship, Centenary Academic Award, ULM Academic Recognition Award, and Southern Arkansas University Scholarship. During his high school career, Frederick served as Vice President of the National Honor Society, Treasurer of Future Business Leaders of America, Lieutenant Governor of the BETA Club, President of the Student Council, was a Character Counts Leader, a member of the Junior Varsity Basketball Team, served as Basketball Team Manager and was a member of the Panther Talk Staff, the Yearbook Staff and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Frederick is the son of Frederick Sr. and Delores Banks of Minden. He is the grandson of Leonard and Viola Walker of Minden. Taylor Carter has been named the 2009 Salutatorian at Doyline High School. Taylor, 17, will graduate with a 3.9 grade point average. She intends to study Pre-Med at Louisiana State University-Shreveport. Taylor was awarded the Blue and Gold Scholarship, the Senior Scholarship and the Leadership Scholarship from LSUS. She will also received TOPS Honors. During her high school career, Taylor served as President of the National Honor Society, Governor of the BETA Club, was a member of Character Counts, the Student Council, served as Team Captain for both the Baseball and Basketball teams and was a member of Quiz Bowl and the Track and Cross Country Teams. Taylor is the daughter of Jody and Paulette Carter of Doyline. She is the granddaughter of Roy and Betty Montgomery of West Monroe and Henry and Jo Carter of Pelham, Ala. Shongaloo Patrick Kyle Collins has been named the 2009 Valedictorian at Shongaloo High School. Patrick, 17, will graduate with a 3.97 grade point average. He plans to major in Piano Performance at Louisiana Tech University. Patrick is the recipient of the La. Tech Outstanding Student Scholarship, received the Performing Arts — Outstanding Student Talent Scholarship Accompanying Scholarship, Principal Keyboardist Wind Ensemble Scholarship, LFMC Past President’s Award and the Louisiana 4-H Foundation Scholarship. During his high school career, Patrick was a member of the BETA Club, 4-H, Future Business Leaders of America, the Christian Youth Club, the 4-H Archery Club and the Science Club. Patrick is the son of Willie and Charlotte Collins of Shongaloo. He is the grandson of Mildred “Polly” Collins of Shongaloo. Brittany Ann Mouser is the 2009 Salutatorian at Shongaloo High School. Brittany will graduate with a 96 grade point average. She intends to further her education at Louisiana College. Brittany is the recipient of the Women’s Mission Union Scholarship and the TOPS Matching Scholarship from Louisiana College. During her high school career, Brittany was a member of Future Business Leaders of America, the Christian Youth Club, BETA Club, Student Council and Cheerleading. Brittany is the daughter of Jason and Sherry Mouser of Shongaloo. She is the granddaughter of Johnny and Betty Mouser of Shongaloo, Aline Rofkahr of Hartman, Ark., and Clinton Ashcraft of Shongaloo. Cotton Valley Tiffany Michelle Davis has been named the 2009 Valedictorian at Cotton Valley High School. Tiffany, 18, will graduate with a 94.0545 grade point average. She intends to study Pre-Med at Bossier Parish Community College, followed by studies at Louisiana Tech University. Tiffany is the recipient of TOPS, the Webster Parish Principals Association Scholars Award, was named Miss Cotton Valley High School, was named Student of the Year, Hall of Fame, received the American Region Award, and was the recipient of the LSUS Senior Award. During her high school career, Tiffany was a member of the BETA club, the Renaissance Society, Student Council, Wildcats for Christ, Future Business Leaders of America, Future Farmers of America, Character Counts, Quiz Bowl Team, FCCLA, was a Cheerleader and was a member of the Basketball, Softball and Cross Country teams. Tiffany is the daughter of Keith E. and Betty Kierbow Davis of Cotton Valley. She is the granddaughter of Mae Kierbow of Cotton Valley, the late Leon W. Kierbow, Louis Davis of Cotton Valley and the late Edward Davis. Brittany Michelle Gavin has been named Cotton Valley High School’s 2009 Salutatorian. Brittany, 18, will graduate with a 93.86 grade point average. She intends to major in Health Information Management at Louisiana Tech University. Brittany has been named to the A Honor Roll, was named Highest GPA in Entrepreneurship, was a member of the BETA Club, was named to the Hall of Fame and is an Honor Graduate. During her high school career, Brittany was a member of Student Council, Wildcats for Christ, GPA, served as Vice President of the BETA Club, was the Secretary of the Senior Class and was a 2005-06 Varsity Cheerleader. Brittany is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Freddie Gavin of Couchwood. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hillard Rushing and the late Mr. and Mrs. James Gavin. Springhill Emerald Paige McIntyre has been named the 2009 Valedictorian at Springhill High School. Emerald, 17, will graduate with a 3.83 grade point average and intends to major in Mathematics Education at the University of Louisiana-Monroe. Emerald is the recipient of the Webster Parish Sheriff’s Association Scholarship, a $3,000/per year scholarship from the University of Louisiana-Monroe, was named Student of the Year, Most Likely to Succeed, received the Webster Parish Principals Association Scholars Award and was named Senior Scholar, Tulane Outstanding Junior and to the Hall of Fame. During her four year high school career, Emerald served as President of the BETA Club, President of the National Honor Society, President of Mu Alpha Theta, was the Editor of the Lumberjack Yearbook Staff, served as Senior Class Vice President, and was a member of Quiz Bowl, the Varsity Tennis Team, Students Against Drugs and Alcohol, the Foreign Language Club, Band and Gifted and Talented Art. Emerald is the daughter of Chris and Vivian McIntyre of Springhill. She is the granddaughter of Dan and Patti McIntyre and Jeanette Cruse, all of Springhill and Donny Garza of Sarepta. Jeanne Michelle Meyer is the 2009 Salutatorian at Springhill High School. Jeanne, 18, will graduate with a 3.7 grade point average and intends to study Pre-Med at Northwestern State University. Jeanne achieved a Perfect Score on the Main GEE, was named Top Accelerated Reader for 2005-06 and was the recipient of the Webster Parish Principals Association Scholars Award. During her high school career, Jeanne was a member of the BETA Club, the Foreign Language Club, the National Honor Society, was a member of Quiz Bowl, served as Secretary of Mu Alpha Theta, and was a member of Students Against Drugs and Alcohol, Tennis and Dance Line. Jeanne is the daughter of Joy Lucille Meyer of Springhill and John Joseph Meyer, Sr. of Violet. She is the granddaughter of Ida Crause Meyer of Chalmette and the late Rosemary Richards. Views: 2266
