Children, teens urged to sign up

Every summer for the past decade, Cultural Crossroads has sponsored an art camp for kids. This summer won’t be any different according to Julie Vogel, president. Kids ages eight to 18 can now sign up for a week-long art camp to be held July 13-17.

This year’s camp will be held at Christopher’s located at 617 Main Street in downtown Minden.

Miranda Anderson works on weaving a basket during Cultural Crossroads annual summer art camp for kids.

The half-day camp, that runs from 9 a.m. until noon each day will offer youngsters a variety of art projects and processes from sculpting to painting.

Headed up each year by local artist, Chris Broussard, the camp will also include some art instruction by visiting professional artists from the Shreveport area.

“We wanted to give the youngsters a chance to experience the arts from a variety of visual artists with different styles and perspectives,” Broussard said.  “This year, we’ll add some new dimensions to the experience by giving kids a chance to explore their creative energies in a number of mediums.”

The camp has been held at The Farm for the past several years but this year’s camp will be held inside at Christopher’s.

“We usually schedule the camp a little earlier in the summer when it’s not so hot, but this year’s July camp will be held inside in an air conditioned facility,” Broussard said.

The cost of the art camp is $100 per child and discounts are available for families with more than one child enrolling. Registration forms may be picked up at The Children’s Center or by calling Chris Broussard at 927-2888 or 393-5991.

Deadline to register is July 6.  More information about Cultural Crossroads and the art camp is available on the organization’s website blog at www.artsinminden. There is limited enrollment and interested parties are encouraged to enroll early.
