Funeral services for John Dick Roberts, 80, of Springhill will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 2009, at Bailey Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. G. R. Collier officiating. Graveside service and burial, with full military rites, will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Forest Park Cemetery, Shreveport, under the direction of Bailey Mortuary.

Mr. Roberts, a resident of this area since 1964, died Sunday, June 28, 2009, in Shreveport.   

He was a faithful member of the First Assembly Church of God in Springhill, was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy and was in the grocery business since 1948.  He served as manager of A&P in Springhill until 1974 then he joined the Kenyan Enterprise Company as store manager and other positions.  

He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Nancy Stroud Roberts of Springhill; daughters, Rev. E. Daphne Roberts of Springhill, N. Lillie Polly Bentrup and husband Ed of Shreveport; Dee J. Walker and husband, Rickey of Cotton Valley; grandchildren, Bo Roberts and wife Mitzy, Wendy Smith and husband Shawn, Janet Jennings, Emily Barnard, John Barnard, Michael Barnard, Jonathan Law and Justice Law; great-grandchildren, Dawson, Luke and Aubrie; sisters, Betty Green of Shreveport; and, Mildred Dimon of Vincent, Ala.

Serving as pallbearers will be Bo Roberts, John Barnard, Michael Barnard, Jonathan Law, Justice Law Scotty McKenzie, Shawn Smith and Dawson Jennings.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tree of Life, First Assembly of God or donor’s choice.

The family will be receiving friends Wednesday from 5 until 8 p.m. at Bailey Mortuary.
