Record-breakers clash PDF Print E-mail

Schule, Windsor set marks in rushing, receiving

Saturday’s af2 playoff game between the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings and Rio Grande Valley Dorados at the CenturyTel Center will feature af2 record-breakers on both teams.

The Battle Wings’ primary record-breaker this season was fullback Jason Schule, who rewrote af2 rushing records for one game, one season and a career during the 2009 season.

But Dorados rookie Rod Windsor  won the af2 Big Game Catch of the Week award last week with four touchdown catches in a 78-51 victory over the Corpus Christi Sharks, giving him the af2 record for touchdown receptions in one season with 58 and the af2 record for total receptions with 184.

Both of those numbers are more than the combined total for the Battle Wings’ top two receivers this season.

Windsor won the award for a fourth quarter catch that allowed him to beat out Jesse Schmidt of Quad City in a two-man duel for the af2 record for TD catches in a season.

Streaking across the field on a crossing route, the 6-2, 208-pound Western New Mexico product broke two tackles after the catch and surged into the end zone for his 59th scoring catch this season, one more than Schmidt. The old record was 54, shared by Rob Mager of Louisville in 2006 and Donovan Morgan of Tulsa in 2005.

Windsor collected a big slice of his record-breaking numbers against the Battle Wings. In three games, he had 48 catches for 590 yards and 13 touchdowns, with at least 15 catches and three touchdown receptions in each game.

Schule wasn’t as successful against the Dorados, with 15 carries for 49 yards and two touchdowns in three games.

Bossier-Shreveport won two of the three games, finishing regular-season play with an 11-5 record to tie the 2007 franchise record. The Dorados are 9-7.

Saturday’s winner advances to a second-round game against the Tulsa-Oklahoma City winner. If Tulsa, the No. 2 seed in the National Conference, wins, the Talons will be the host team. But if the Battle Wings and Yard Dawgz win, the game will be played in Bossier City.
