There is still plenty of time for vendors to sign up for the tenth annual Main to Main Trade Days, which will be held November 6 and 7. “Main to Main is a project of Minden and Springhill Main Street projects with volunteers from communities throughout the parish helping to plan and implement the event,” said Main Street Director Pattie Odom.
The Main to Main route runs from the Arkansas line down 371 to Springhill Main Street. It continues south on 371 through Cullen, Sarepta, Cotton Valley, and Dixie Inn, to Hwy. 80. From there it goes through downtown Minden on Broadway and back up Minden Main Street to the Sibley Road and down through Sibley and Heflin to the Webster Parish line. “It’s 50 miles of food, fun, and shopping,” Odom said. “Vendors selling treasures, trinkets, food and art and crafts are set up and offer a great two day shopping experience. “ In addition to vendors along Main and Broadway, First United Methodist Church is hosting an Artisans Fair. Simultaneously, Webster Parish Trade Days will be held at the Woods Convention Center, and a huge new area on the Sibley Road will be set aside especially for flea market and garage sale items. Buses will be running the downtown route to shuttle shoppers from the Minden Civic Center parking lot to events throughout the Minden Main Street areas. “There is still room for vendors to sign up for the event,” Odom said. “All one needs to do to sign up is call or come by city hall and get a registration form, or download a form at maintomain.com. The prime locations downtown are on a first-come, first-served basis.” For 2009, Minden will be offering day-time shopping and night-time entertainment as Main to Main in Minden becomes a part of “The Festival of Memories.” Odom said Minden Main Street will remember the Great Depression with a visit from Huey Long and Bonnie and Clyde. Vintage cars will be on display, and the Main Street “Art in the Alley” project will kick off. The Historic Residential Association will be giving riding tours of the Historic District on Saturday. Cultural Crossroads will host a Children’s Art Exhibit and Soup Kitchen at Christopher’s and artists will have their work on display at Easley Fine Art in a WPA style art exhibit. “Main Street is so excited to have the Dorcheat Dance Marathon slated for Friday and Saturday, and Mahogany Theatre production of ‘Steal Away,’ featuring a Cultural Crossroads ‘boarding house style dinner’ as a part of the festival and our Main to Main Weekend,” Odom said. “All this activity will create a great festival for Minden.”
