A former volunteer deputy for the Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office has been arrested on charges of aggravated rape and indecent behavior with a juvenile.
Late Tuesday, Webster Parish Sheriff’s investigators executed a search warrant and arrest on Donald Marcus Boswell, 36, of Slack Street in Minden following an investigation into an alleged case of sexually inappropriate behavior with a young girl.
Investigators learned in an interview with the 11-year-old victim that, for at least one year, Boswell had initiated with her a number of sexually-based encounters.
During the investigation, Sheriff’s investigators Lt. Dustin Reynolds and Sgt. Scott Tucker obtained additional evidence that secured the warrant for the search of Boswell’s home.
Reportedly, while the search was under way, Boswell arrived at his residence where he was taken into custody by Sheriff’s deputies. Boswell was transported to the Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Division offices for questioning, where he confessed to having a sexual relationship with the girl on multiple occasions.
“Just when I think I have seen the worst, we run across someone like this,” said Detective Sgt. Scott Tucker, lead investigator and arresting officer on the case. “The only remorse he showed was for getting caught. You would think that with the number of arrests we have made, these predators would stop.”
Boswell was booked into the Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center on charges of aggravated rape and indecent behavior with a juvenile, with bond amounts of $500,000 and $150,000.
According to Webster Parish Sheriff Gary Sexton, Boswell served in 2004 as a volunteer reserve deputy.
“Donald M. Boswell is a former Webster Parish volunteer reserve deputy who began his service with the department in 2004 with no arrest authority, as he is not a post-certified officer,” Sexton said. “His role as a volunteer reserve was to offer backup services upon request of the department to assist in controlling traffic flow during such circumstances as funerals and parades, traffic accidents and road hazards.”
Sexton said at the time of commission, Boswell's official background provided no indication of any incident that would have hindered his eligibility for reserve status. Boswell was decommissioned by the department a few months prior to this arrest.
“The department is grateful for the willingness of reserve volunteers to offer their own time to assist, as the availability and quality of such supportive services would be greatly compromised without their efforts,” Sexton said.
The Sheriff said his department takes precautionary measures in the selection of reserves.
“We cannot anticipate the personal actions and behaviors of each individual,” he said. “Let this example prove that the department will not hesitate to enforce the law and seek justice upon any individual or case, no matter the association – whether professional or personal.”
