Are you ready for a high school version of the Battle Wings’ “Brawl for It All” arena football showdown with the Arkansas Twisters? The 2009 District 1-4A football championship will be decided on the final night of regular-season play when Haughton plays host to Parkway Friday.
It will be a matchup of the only Bossier Parish team that has scored more than 300 points this season (Haughton) and the only parish team that has allowed less than 100 (Parkway). The loser probably drops into a second-place tie with Minden, which fell to Alexandria Senior High 29-6 in a non-district game Friday while the Bucs and Panthers were taking care of their 1-4A business. Haughton extended its winning streak to seven games with a 34-10 victory at Bossier High and Parkway rolled past Woodlawn 41-14 at Lee Hedges Stadium. Parkway takes an 8-1 record into Friday’s game and can equal the best regular-season record in school history (9-1, in 1988) with a victory over Haughton. The Bucs, who are 21 points away from their year-old regular-season scoring record of 337 points, are 7-2 after an 0-2 start and may be playing for a home game in the opening round of state playoffs as well as the district title. They will be in the state playoffs for the 13th year in a row. Parkway, in the playoffs for a school record fifth straight year, should be at home in the opening round of playoffs regardless of the outcome of this week’s game. But a victory over the Bucs could give the Panthers a chance for home games in the first two rounds of the playoffs. In another 1-4A game involving a Bossier Parish team, Benton jumped off to a 31-0 halftime lead and scored a season high 51 points in a 51-7 romp past Northwood. Benton (5-4) can wrap up its 14th straight trip to the playoffs with a win over Fair Park (1-8) at Independence Stadium Thursday night. Bossier High (5-4) plays host to Northwood (4-5) Friday and may need a win over the Falcons to extend its Caddo-Bossier record streak to 20 consecutive playoff appearances. Dakota Prescott completed nine of 23 passes for 228 yards and three touchdowns Friday night, moving past Minden’s Hunter Leppert into the 1-4A passing lead as Haughton took a 13-10 lead into the halftime intermission and pulled away to beat the Bearkats. Most of Prescott’s yardage came on the touchdown passes of 42 and 44 yards to Damon Gladney, and 62 yards to Jordan Craft. Marlon Seets had 11 carries for 70 yards rushing. He scored the Bucs’ first touchdown on an eight-yard run and the last on a 52-yard interception return. For the season, Prescott is 118-of-212 (.557) for 1,841 yards and 23 touchdowns. Bossier High took a 10-7 lead late in the second quarter, but Haughton regained the lead three plays later. The Bearkats did all of their scoring in the first half, with a 30-yard field goal by Hebert Cruz in the first quarter and a 26-yard touchdown run by Roy Winn in the second quarter, with Cruz kicking the extra point. Winn led Bossier High in rushing with 82 yards in 11 carries, followed by Zack Lynn with 14 carries for 71 yards. They had 153 of the Bearkats’ 169 yards total offense. Michael Mobley led the Kats in tackles with eight, followed by Trenton Parson with five. Benton had 159 yards rushing and 55 passing Friday as quarterback Mark Harrington completed five of 10 passes, including a 13-yard touchdown pass to Lajarius Turks and an eight-yard touchdown pass to Steven Vinson, who also scored on a 65-yard interception return. Warren McShan, Jeff Lang and Brandon Adams scored rushing touchdowns on two-yard runs and Josh Stephens scored on a nine-yarder as the Tiger defense forced nine turnovers. Murphy Colvin also kicked a 37-yard field goal. Tanner Crutsinger recovered two fumbles and Kyle West, in his first defensive start, intercepted a pass for Benton. Tramel Williams led the Tigers in tackles with seven. West and Gentry Grisham had six apiece. Views: 513
