A resolution that allows the City of Minden to pay $200,000 in matching funds to a Louisiana Community Development Block Grant (LCDBG) is on the agenda for today’s 7 p.m. meeting of the Minden City Council.

The grant application, which is for the year 2010-2011 will be used for rehabilitating the city’s sewer system.

The resolution, if passed, shows the city agreeing to pay the administrative consultant cost of more than $34,000. It also agrees to pay engineering costs up to the fee agreed upon in the engineering contract including pre-agreement costs, surveying and engineering design estimated to total $80,000 and $85,850 for construction costs.

Other items on the council’s agenda include:
Hiring of a new Minden police officer;

Two zoning requests: one by Aubrey Floyd Miles of 211 Angelee Street in order to place a mobile home on  his property, and one by Lisa Hawk of 311 East Roosevelt Street to operate a beauty shop in the existing house;

Two condemned properties: one owned by Jalal Sulayman on the corner of St. Rest and Mignon streets, and one owned by the Ervin Powell Estate at 132 St. Rest Street.

Award surplus property bid on a lot fronting Frazier Street;

Adopt an ordinance in support of an application for the creation of the Minden Art & History Cultural District;

Adopt an ordinance granting CenterPoint Energy Resources the right to construct, install, operate and maintain facilities for the transportation, districtuion and sale of gas in the municipality;

Adopt an ordinance, amend and reenact another ordinance levying taxes of 5.83 mills as General Alimony Tax on all taxable property in the city limits. for the year 2009; those taxable properties designated as a part of the Minden Downtown Development District will be assessed with an additonal 2.60 milles;

Adopt a resolution in support of an application for the creation of the Minden Art & History Cultural District;

Adopt a resolution authorizing the mayor to execute an agreement with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development for a new automatic security gate at the Minden Airport;

Adopt a resolution affirming support of and with the 2010 census; and,

Hear the Minden Police report.

All Minden City Council meetings are held in Council Chambers at Minden City Hall. The public is invited to attend.

:) Thanks For adopting the bid on surplus property fronting Frazier St. This moves on more out of poverty.
