Reward offered for information on burglaries

A $2,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for the burglary of two local automobile sales companies.

Sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning, Harper Motors on Hwy. 531 and Brown Chrysler on Homer Road were burglarized.

“The person responsible for the break-ins wore gloves and took a small amount of cash from both locations,” said Minden Det. Heath Balkom.

Minden Police Chief T.C. Bloxom said Homer Police reported a similar break-in on the same night at a vehicle dealership within the department’s jurisdiction.

Minden authorities are asking anyone who may have seen something suspicious in the area to contact headquarters at 371-4226.

In an unrelated matter, a Minden man led city officers on a high-speed chase Sunday before crashing his motorcycle into a patrol car.

Keith Lenell Willis, 45, was arrested Sunday and charged with aggravated flight from an officer (felony) and passing in a no passing zone.

Around 6 p.m. Sunday, Minden Officer Kenneth James observed a motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed on Industrial Drive near the Hillside Apartment complex. When the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the driver of the two-wheeled vehicle refused to stop and accelerated.

James called for back-up and continued pursuit. A short time later, Minden Officer Bo Turner arrived in the vicinity where he observed the driver of the motorcycle run the red light at the Industrial/Hwy. 531 intersection and turn north onto Hwy 531.

The officers continued pursuit, with the motorcycle driver reaching speeds of up to 115 miles-per-hour.

The driver of the bike continued to Hwy. 80 where he turned east. The fleeing cyclist led the officers to the Stuckey’s Truck Stop parking lot on Hwy. 532. When Officer James attempted to box in the biker, the driver attempted to avoid James and in doing so, plowed into the front of Officer Turner’s patrol car.

“Willis was knocked off the bike and flew on top of the hood,” said Officer Turner.

Willis picked himself up and attempted to flee the scene on foot; however, K-9 Officer Kash was released and apprehended Willis approximately 10 feet from the upended bike.

Willis refused treatment at the scene and was transported to Minden Police headquarters for booking.

“State Police were called to investigate the accident involving Officer Turner’s patrol unit,” said Bloxom.

Damages to the vehicle have been estimated at more than $2,200.

When questioned as to why he ran, Willis told arresting officers that “something in his body was telling him to go.”

OK Jana...get your terminology straight: this guy is a not a cyclist. A cyclist rides a BICYCLE! I do have some cyclist friends who would love to have been clocked at 115 MPH

Maybe he's a biker but what he rode is called a motorcycle!

I guess neither of these dealerships have any kind of silent alarms? If the local fuzz patrolled the town's primary business district more frequently, such things might not happen as often as they do.

There has been a lot of burglaries in the last couple of months. What is going on?

nwla.nitpicker, you sure are true to your handle! There is nothing in the definition of "cyclist" to preclude the word from being used to describe the rider of a motorbike as well as the rider of a cycle powered by human legs. And nothing confusing about the article--it is clear that she is talking about a motorcycle rider.

oops...posted in the wrong place

sorry cuz but I'm a cyclist that rides a Human-Powered Vehicle. I've always thought "biker" meant MOTORCYCLE and "cyclist" meant BICYCLE. But in east redneckistan I guess they're interchangeable.

It would be nice if the writer was consistent.

Well I am sure we all know that nwla.nitpicker knows what he is talking about.

I am sure he sits on computers all day and looks up the terms before taking a stroll on his bike.

Wow HOT PURSUIT $2200 dollars of damage to a public vehicle, but you got your man.
It is a shame how testosterone gets in the way of logical thought. Since when did speeding become an offense that triggers a hot pursuit through a busy town endangering lives all along he way. Lucky for MPD that the motorcycle rider was not killed in the process as well any innocent citizens along the way. I my opinion hot pursuit should be reserved for only important reasons. Not for speeding. Maybe shooting J walkers is appropriate police action.

elissatoo, would you suggest that if speeders don't pull over when they see the blue lights they should be allowed to go on their way? Sound like this guy needed off of the streets. I expect the officers had more information than we were given in this article. Who knows what else the voices were telling him to do.

If the officers are going to use hot pursuit and endanger my family, I suggest they stop the chase, run the tags, and pick him up when he gets home. I'll bet he bonded out of jail for less than $500.
