The Webster Parish School Board placed Sarepta High School head coach on administrative leave Tuesday after his arrest on two criminal charges last week. Forty-seven-year-old John Bryant is accused of obstruction of justice and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile in connection to a November fire, which took place near Sarepta High School.
Bryant is expected to remain on leave until the case is resolved. Allegedly, Bryant’s son, 17-year-old Luke Bryant, 17-year-old George Smith and a 16-year-old started the fire, which burned the structure. Reportedly, following the fire, John Bryant told his son not to cooperate with authorities during the initial investigation. John Bryant and Luke Daniel Bryant, along with Smith and the juvenile, were arrested at Sarepta High School December 3 in connection to the fire. Both Luke Bryant and Smith are charged with simple arson, contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, manufacture of incendiary device and criminal conspiracy. The juvenile, whose name is not being released due to age, is charged with simple arson, manufacture of incendiary device and criminal conspiracy. The case is still under investigation with the Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Arson Division. Reportedly, the structure that burned was property of the Webster Parish School Board. Superintendent of Webster Parish Schools Butch Williams confirmed John Bryant’s administrative leave; however, due to privacy reasons he was unable to comment on the status of the students or any disciplinary actions they may be facing.
