Happening in 2010

Each year, Webster Parish offers a variety of fun, entertaining events for both locals and guests. This year, these annual events are sure to be bigger and better than ever.

Cities and towns throughout Webster Parish host venues that include homemade crafts, delicious foods, contests, art, history and much, much more.

For those who are filling in their 2010 datebook, the Press-Herald offers the following calendar of events. Watch for a more complete list of dates and times in future editions of the Press-Herald.

January

January 16 — Krewe of Artemis-Springhill Mardi Gras Ball at 6 p.m. at the Springhill Civic Center. For more information visit www.springhilllouisiana.net.

Annual Lake Bistineau Mardi Gras Parade at Lake Bistineau State Park #1.

January 30 — Springhill Mardi Gras Parade at 1 p.m.

January 30 — Minden Mardi Gras Parade at 5 p.m.

February

February 5 and 6 — Buds & Blooms, at First Methodist Church, 903 Broadway, Minden.

March

March 27 — Spring Fling at Yellow Pine Inn, 432 Yellow Pine Road, Sibley. This annual event features a tour of the historic Yellow Pine Inn listed in the National Register, as well as a plant sale and swap, antiques, collectibles and craft items. April

April 10 — Scottish Tartan Festival at the Scotland Farms just north of Minden off Hwy. 79 at Athens Road. Events begin at 9 a.m. and include the Celtic run, bagpipe and Scottish fiddling competitions and demos. Admission is free and parking is $5 per car. April 17— The 5th Annual Fuller Center Benefit Golf Tournament at The Grove, located at 483 Benson Road, 6.5 miles north of Minden. For more information contact Charlie Park at 539-2122.

April  — 7th Annual Unity Celebration on Coyle Avenue in Cullen. This is a family oriented festival including live entertainment, a car show, a health fair, face painting, food vendors and bake sale. April — Spring Arts Festival presented by Cultural Crossroads at “The Farm,” located at the corner of East Union and Talton Streets in Minden. The event will feature children’s art contests, adult workshops, exhibits and live entertainment. Admission is $3 for adults, students enter free. May

May 1 — Wheels Through Time Cruisin’ for a Cure Car Show, benefiting St. Jude Children's Research Center and Dorcheat Museum, will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Minden Fairgrounds at 802 Goodwill Street. June — Annual Springhill Rodeo Parade on Main Street in historic downtown Springhill. For more information contact Kelly or Thomas Garland at (318) 847-4546.

June — 58th Annual Springhill PRCA. This is rodeo at its finest. For more information, contact Billy Nickerson at (318) 464-9399.
