Bossier High’s Bearkats added the “Doc” Edwards tournament championship to their collection of hardware Wednesday with a 63-49 victory over Airline in the championship game at Centenary’s Gold Dome.

Jalan West, who was selected Most Valuable Player on the all-tournament team, led the Bearkats with 20 points, followed by Devonte Francis with 15.

Josh Hagins of Airline led all scorers with 26 points and was also selected on the all-tournament team, along with teammate Tony Ardison.

Francis and Joseph James of Bossier High were also selected on the all-tournament team.

The victory gave Bossier High a 17-1 record and extended the Bearkats’ winning streak to 14 games.

Plain Dealing’s boys won the consolation championship with a 56-53 victory over Huntington. It was the second time the Lions (12-4) have beaten Huntington (10-12) this season.

LaCharlie Scott scored 16 points, while Dordarrius Gill scored 12 and was selected on the all-tournament team. Vontaries Washington had 10 and Yondarius Johnson eight. Plain Dealing plays host to Grambling Jan. 5.

In the girls’ division, Airline won the third place game with a 69-59 victory over Plain Dealing.

Maddy Scheppers scored 25 points for Airline, making five three-point shots, while Sara Morgan had nine, all on three-pointers, and Jeanine Myles hit two three-pointers while scoring eight points.

Shantel Briggs had 22, Denisha Chambers 15 and Jessica Carper 12 for Plain Dealing, now 11-4 for the season.

“We shot the ball as well as we have shot it all year,” said Airline coach David Duhon, whose Lady Vikings will take a 14-6 record into a Saturday game at Ruston. The Lady Vikings had a total of 10 three-pointers.

In another girls’ game, Laura Owen scored 29 points and Lulu Perry tossed in 27 to lead Benton’s Lady Tigers to a 70-56 victory over Huntington.
