A Bossier City couple began a new decade with a new son Friday. Gavyn Elijah Woodard was born to Tony and Kimberly Woodard at 5:37 a.m. on New Year's Day at Willis-Knighton Bossier, making him the first baby of 2010 born in the Bossier-Shreveport area.
The couple celebrated the new year by bringing in a new addition to their family. "Now there will be more reasons to celebrate this day," said the proud mom, coddling her hours-old son. "It's an honor and a blessing," Tony Woodard said. The Minden High School teacher and her husband, a custodian at Stockwell Elementary School, were spending a New Year's Eve at home with son Gabriel, 4, when she went into labor. They arrived at the hospital about 10:45 p.m. Woodard said she had to give a natural birth because she had dilated too quickly to receive an epidural. However, by Friday afternoon, mom was up and walking around. "Compared to last night, I'm great," she laughed. "It's been a great stay." Five-pound, 11-ounce Gavyn was due to be born Jan. 13. The Woodards were surprised that they were the lucky family that gave birth to the first baby of the year. "It will be a (big celebration next year). It will be the perfect holiday," said Kimberly Woodard. Views: 648
