Lady Tiders fall to Southwood PDF Print E-mail
Written by Gregg Parks

The Minden High Lady Tiders took on the undefeated Southwood Lady Cowboys Saturday night at the Palace.
Despite a good start, minden fell to Southwood, 54-34.

“We came out and led after the first quarter,” Lady Tider head coach Jacob Brown said. “But Southwood fought right back. We may have lost by 20, but the final score doesn’t tell the whole story. We were only down four points with three minutes left in the third quarter, and then all of a sudden the wheels fell off.”

The Lady Tiders had three straight possessions end in turnovers, which allowed Southwood to turn a three-point lead into a nine-point lead.

“You can’t play a team like Southwood and turn the ball over, shoot 24% from the field and 36% from the free throw line,” Brown said. “You can’t beat a team like Southwood playing like that.”

The Lady Tiders had their chances, as they led early and played close into the second half. But they only scored 13 second-half points, which was something they couldn’t overcome.

“Our girls played very hard,” Brown said. “We jumped out 6-0, but Southwood just battle back. We thought our 2-3 zone gave us a good chance, but the Southwood girls stepped up and made their shots. And you can’t score just 13 points in the second half and win a ball game.”

Jeronia Allen led Minden with 11 points and eight rebounds. Nesha Wright had nine points and six rebounds and Carley Cavalier, and Kiki Harris both scored four points. JaMasha Hill, Miranda Fisher nd Brittany Mims each scored two.

“Our girls need to know that every game, teams are going to make runs,” Brown said. “We need to play through that and keep our composure. But overall I thought our girls gave a very good effort and I’m proud of them. But, I’m not going to accept losing to anyone.”
