Walter passed away peacefully at his home on Jan. 11, 2010, after a short illness. He was 79 years old. A service honoring him will be at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden, Friday, Jan. 15 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dee Anders officiating. Interment will follow at Minden Cemetery following the service. Visitation for friends and family will be held today, January 14, from 5 until 8 p.m. at Rose-Neath. Born in Hall Summit, Walter’s parents were Ilola Katherine Scrogins Walker and Napoleon B. Walker. He married Margie Rene Pair Adams Walker and became a father to Lonnie, Richard, and Ronald Adams. Walter and Margie had one daughter, Rosilind “Tinky” Walker. His wife of 12 years and 28 month old Rosilind died leaving his life much too early, but “you betcha” he is with them now. Also preceding him in death were his parents, son Lonnie Adams, and sisters Naomi Floyd and Beth Miller. “WWW” was a loyal, dedicated employee of KCS Railroad for 44 years where he worked in the car department. Respected for his work ethics and loved for his kindness, the “old man” formed lifelong friendships. It was KCS and the special friendship with son-in-law Eddy Swain that brought this gentle man into the lives of another family. Walter married Lila Ann Hillidge Tharpe Walker, and they spent five short years together before her death in 1980. Walter enjoyed planting a garden, but he enjoyed sharing what he had grown even more. Keeping his yard, feeding his birds, and having coffee with his friends all brought him great pleasure. Sharing old KCS stories with granddaughter Holli Michele, attending auctions with grandson Kyle, and playing Granddaddy with the kids brought him the greatest joy. Walter’s loving family include brother, James Walker; sons, Richard Adams, Ronald Adams, Dennis Tharpe, and Mark Tharpe; daughters, Becky Swain and Bonnie Shamburger; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be John Foster, Gary Cislaghi, Bill Warner, Bill Lea, Mike Ebarb, and Ricky Gross. Honorary Pallbearers will be Don Bloxom, Bill Poole, Monroe Cox, Larry Elkins, Ronnie Sales, and Carroll Toms. God has a way of carefully placing us in each other’s lives, and “just between us chickens,” we were truly blessed to be placed with Walter.
