The third through fifth grade students at Stewart Elementary School recently participated in the Louisiana Young Readers' Choice Award. Each student in grades three through five cast their vote for their favorite book on real voting machines. The books that received the most votes from the students across Louisiana are the Award Winners.
Denny Bays, election manager from the Secretary of State Department of Elections, Jay Darden's office, set up the voting machines. Dustin Bays and Roy Mcclure, voting technicians, from the Secretary of State's office, conducted the voting. Stewart Elementary students were given a list of 15 books to read or listen to. Books on the list were checked out from the school's library, Webster Parish Library, and some were purchased at the school's bookfair. The Louisiana Young Readers' Choice Award is a reading enrichment program of the State Library of Louisiana. The purpose of the program is to foster a love of reading in the children of Louisiana by motivating them to participate in the recognition of outstanding books. The coordinator of this event was Stewart Elementary's librarian Angela West. The principal of Stewart Elementary is Dusty Rowland. Views: 888
