A Bossier City police officer fired in connection to the arrest of former assistant district attorney Sherb Sentell has been reinstated.
The decision was made at the conclusion of a two-day civil service hearing.
Phillip Vernon was fired October 7, 2009 following an internal investigation that declared the officer had filed a false police report regarding the Oct. 3, 2009 arrest of Sentell.
In the report, Vernon indicated Sentell threatened his job with the department and tried to use his position to avoid arrest.
Although reinstated, Vernon is subject to a 90-day suspension, a decision his attorney, Joel Pearce of Shreveport, says will be appealed.
Sentell was arrested at the Horseshoe Casino in Shreveport where, after he was observed grabbing his wife’s arm, he was charged with domestic battery and public intimidation. Vernon was one of two officers who transported Sentell for booking.
All charges against Sentell were later dismissed following an investigation by the Attorney General’s Office.
