Trailing 23-16 after three quarters, Airline’s Lady Vikings did all of the scoring in the fourth quarter for a come-from-behind 25-23 victory to move into a second-place tie with the Lady Jackets in District 1-5A girls’ basketball. Maddy Scheppers scored 10 points and Breuna Douglas tossed in seven for Airline, now 21-11 for the season, and both also turned in great defensive performances.
“We couldn’t drop it in the ocean from a helicopter,” Airline coach David Duhon said of his team’s offensive play in the first three quarters. Plain Dealing clinched its eighth straight District 1-A girls’ championship with a 75-11 rout of Sarepta Friday and a 42-29 win over Haynesville Saturday. Dennisha Chambers and Jyemekia Scott scored 11 points apiece and Jessica Carper added 10 for the Lady Lions Friday night while Chambers had 12 and Carper 10 Saturday for the Lady Lions, 21-4 for the season and 10-0 in district play with two district games left. Every other district team already has three losses in 1-4A play. Plain Dealing’s remaining regular-season games are a home game with Logansport (1-17) and a road game at Ringgold (14-11). Another Bossier Parish team chalked up its 20th wins in girls’ basketball this season Friday night as Bossier High’s Lady Kats moved within a half-game of second-place Benton in District 2-4A with a 60-51 victory over the Lady Tigers. Jasmine Bryant scored 17 points and Aritney Ross 15 for Bossier High, now 20-10 overall and 4-3 in district play. Lulu Perry had 25 for Benton, which dropped to 19-10 and 4-2. Parkway, 21-6 for the season, kept its perfect District 2-4A record (6-0) with a 62-26 victory at Haughton as Tasha West scored 17 points and Danielle Nock 14 for Parkway. Jessica Battle had nine and Hannah Christ eight for Haughton, which trailed 30-11 at halftime. Views: 237
