It’s hard to believe something so small can cause so much trouble. For those who found themselves without power for a brief time Friday, you can blame Sammy Squirrel, who has gone to meet his Maker.
“We have issues with squirrels, and squirrels run up poles,” said Public Works Director George Rolfe. Rolfe said power was out for less than an hour up and down Homer Road, including residences, businesses and traffic lights. “Out in the Ridgewood area a squirrel got into what we call the Primary,” Rolfe said. “It happens from time to time.” Rolfe said sometimes it’s possible to use a squirrel guard to prevent outages. “But we can’t squirrel guard a primary,” Rolfe said. “We can only squirrel guard a secondary.” Rolfe said the workers responded quickly. “When it’s something like this, it goes pretty fast,” he said. “They find out what causes it, isolate it and then run the line. Once they found out where the squirrel went in, it took no time at all to get power restored.” Views: 1421
