District basketball games are scheduled tonight for all six Bossier Parish high schools, but only two will be playing at home. Parkway’s Lady Panthers, who climbed into the Top Ten (at No. 10) in this week’s Louisiana Sports Writers’ Assn. Class 4A poll, will play host to runnerup Benton tonight.
The other parish school with home games tonight is Plain Dealing. With girls’ state playoffs starting a week from Thursday, the Lady Lions (21-4 and ranked No. 2 in this week’s LSWA Class A poll) have already clinched their eighth consecutive district championship and will be trying to maintain their power rating position with a victory over Logansport, which is 1-17 for the season and 1-9 in district play. The Plain Dealing boys have a one-game lead over Grambling in District 1-A boys’ standings as they carry a 21-5 record into tonight’s home game with Logansport (9-13, 5-4 in district). The Lions, dropping to No. 6 in this week’s LSWA poll although they are ahead of No. 5-ranked Arcadia in the 1-A race, are bidding for their fourth straight district championship. No. 2 Ouachita and No. 9 Natchitoches-Central are the only North Louisiana teams that received any votes in this week’s Class 5A boys’ poll. No. 2 Bossier High, No. 9 Minden and No. 10 Wossman are in the 4A boys’ Top Ten. Peabody, the state’s only unbeaten boys’ team, is No. 1 in the writers’ 4A poll. Bossier High has the second-best record in any class at 30-1. Parkway’s girls, 21-6 for the season and 6-0 in district play, can wrap up the District 2-4A title with a win over the Lady Tigers at Parkway tonight. If that happens, Benton will be tied with Bossier High for second place going into their final regular-season games Friday. Benton (19-10, 4-2 in district) will play host to Minden Friday night. Bossier High (20-10, 4-3 in district) has a non-district game at Ringgold tonight. In the District 2-4A boys’ race, Bossier High (30-1, 5-0) is ranked No. 2 in the latest LSWA poll and also has a non-district game at Ringgold tonight. Minden is second in the boys’ race with a 25-5 overall record, and takes a 3-1 district record into tonight’s home game with Haughton (13-12, 2-3). Parkway’s boys (6-19) will be looking for their first district win in six games when they play host to Benton (9-11, 2-3) tonight. In District 1-5A boys’ play, Airline visits Captain Shreve. The Vikings are 19-11 for the season and 1-1 in district play, tied with Southwood (16-14) for second place. Airline can move into sole possession of second place if they beat Captain Shreve (11-20, 0-2) and first-place Byrd (19-12, 2-0) beats Southwood (16-14, 1-1) tonight. The boys’ state playoffs will start on Feb. 26, a week after the girls’ state playoffs get under way. Views: 247
