Minden to open playoffs at home

The Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) released it’s 2009-10 boys basketball playoff brackets Monday afternoon.

Five Webster Parish boys basketball teams qualified for this year’s LHSAA playoffs– Minden High, Lakeside, Doyline, Shongaloo and Cotton Valley.

The Minden Crimson Tide has the #13 seed in Class 4A and will host Huntington Friday night at the Palace at Minden High.
Huntington (19-12), the district champion in District 2-4A, comes into the game as 4A’s #20 seed.

“I don’t know if we could have gotten a worse first round draw than we did,” Minden head coach Alan Shaw said.

“Huntington is a district champion and the only reason they dropped (to #20) was because they didn’t have a very strong district. That dropped them down lower than what they really are.”

The Crimson Tide finished second in District 1-4A, two games behind Bossier, and they will be the only second place team facing off with a first place team in the first round.

The Lakeside Warriors finished their season with a 19-14 record, which landed them the #21 seed in Class 2A.

The Warriors will play on the road Friday night in Baton Rouge at #12 seed Dunham.

Dunham finished fourth in the very tough District 7-2A with a 24-11 record.

The Doyline Panthers finished the season with a 18-14 record and the #23 seed in the Class B bracket.

The Panthers will travel to Lacassine Friday night to take on the #10 seeded Lacassine Cardinals.

Lacassine finished the year with a 20-19 record and second place in District 7B.

The Shongaloo Tigers, #11 seed, took second place in District 1B, and will host #22 seeded Monterey. Monterey fished 16-12 in District 6B.

The Cotton Valley Wildcats only managed a 10-22 record in this rebuilding season, but it was good enough for the #25 seed in Class C.

The Wildcats will head to Dubach Friday night to take on the 16-13, # 8 seeded Hornets.

Dubach finished the year as the second place team in 1C with a 16-13 record.
