As usual, the outdoor track and field season for Bossier Parish high schools gets under way with the Shamocus Patton Benton Tiger Relays, sponsored by Bossier Federal Credit Union, at Benton Thursday. It will be the first meet at the “new” Benton track, with field events starting at 3 p.m. and running events at 4 p.m. All parish schools will be participating except the Plain Dealing boys and girls, and the Parkway girls.
Other entries include Ouachita, Ouachita Christian, Minden, Lakeside and Shongaloo (boys and girls) and the Cedar Creek girls, led by Ashley Aldredge, who signed a letter of intent with Texas A&M this week. She set the Class A state meet record in the javelin two years ago with 156 feet. The composite record is 164-4, by Benton’s Rachel Walker. Two other top entries are Benton juniors T.K. Fleming and Kaitlin Flattmann, the only two Division I winners from North Louisiana in the recent state meet at the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse at LSU in Baton Rouge. Fleming won both the long jump and triple jump. He ranks No. 5 in the nation in the indoor long jump, and is a threat to school records in both events. Flattmann won the girls’ 1,600-meter run with a composite state meet record 5:06.24. Haughton sophomore Mitch Landry was a close second to Philip Primeaux of Catholic (Baton Rouge) in the boys’ 3,200 with 9:53.90. Views: 241
