Daymen Rycroft scored with 52.74 seconds remaining in the game to give the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees a 3-2 victory over the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs at the CenturyTel Center Friday night. Saturday, the Killer Bees made it two in a row with a 5-2 win at CTC, dropping the Bugs to 33-20-4 (15-13 at home). With the victory, Rio Grande Valley moved within four points of Corpus Christi for the fifth and final berth in the Central Hockey League playoffs with seven games left in regular-season play.
The Mudbugs’ Brett Smith tied the score Friday with the game’s only power play goal (both teams had seven opportunities) 12:27 minutes into the third period, assisted by Joe Ori and Jim Jorgensen. At Corpus Christi Sunday, first period goals by Jim Jorgensen, James DeLory and Brett Smith gave the Bugs a quick 3-0 lead and they held on for their 34th win, 4-1. Jereme Tendler spoiled the shutout in the middle of the third period, but Travis Clayton got an empty net goal with 1:17 left to wrap it up. Views: 179
