Other parties also have chance to win races PDF Print E-mail
Written by Parker Ward

Dear Editor:

On the Wednesday July 14, 2010 edition of the Bossier Press-Tribune in the writer opinion column purposed the question “why some candidates jumped into the mayoral race when we do not have a chance of winning”. I have an answer for that question that the main parties will not like.

We have jumped into the Mayoral race because of the main parties.  Have you watched Shreveport Politics in the last four years? It looks like a circus. We, so-called “minor candidates” are running because of the convictions of our heart.

We believe in standing up for principles, values, and integrity. We want to have a verity of candidates that the people can select from. We are not jumping in for fun, publicity or experience. We are tired and mad of the stuff our local leaders are doing. We may not be career politicians if that is why we are minor candidates. People have started to see through the fancy signs and started looking at the candidate. Money does not win elections but voter do. It’s time to put party, values, and principles over party. For me I have an energized youth base, they are excited to see a candidate who will speak for them also.

On August 28, the Primary will have a surprise, which was failed to mention by Wednesdays opinion writer. It will be the first Third Party primary since 1910. The progressive Party had a primary in Louisiana. This time the Libertarian Party will have a U.S. Senate primary. The candidates, Anthony “Tony G” Gentile and Randall Todd Hayes, will be on the ballot on August 28 with the other parties. The Libertarian Primary will allow Libertarian and Independent voters.  So Shreveport/Bossier, we have a plentiful number of candidates. Let’s get out and vote.

Parker Ward is the Libertarian Mayoral candidate and Caddo Libertarian Parish Executive Committee Chair.
