The telltale signs that summer vacation is coming to an end soon are visible at the entrances of local businesses where school supply lists have been placed and in the store isles stacked with notebooks, pencils, backpacks, and more. However, there is one very important school supply that can only be found at the library and that is a library card.
Applying for a card is easy! There is no age limit. Children need to be accompanied by a parent. Adults should be able to provide identification and proof of residence in Bossier Parish. Anyone attending school or working in Bossier Parish is also eligible to apply for a card with proof or school ID. Cards can be obtained at any of the seven library locations in Bossier Parish. Be sure to ask for a tour of the library while there. The Bossier Parish English Language Arts (ELA) Honors Program for grades 6—8 printouts can still be picked up at any of the Bossier Parish Library children’s areas. August 11, 2010 is when all tasks will be due. If your child still needs a list of the expectations with due dates, stop by any of the library branches for a copy. Benton library is happy to announce a new preschool story time scheduled every Friday for ages 3—5 from 10—11am. Join the fun with your preschoolers! For more information call (318)965-2751. In the New Books section at Bossier Central Library a space has been added for new CDs and Adult Graphic Novels. New CDs will be easier to find now that they have been separated from all of the other collection. The content of Adult Graphic Novels is not for children since they contain adult language and situations. On Thursday, August 4, 2010, 6—7pm the Bossier Central Book Club will meet at 2206 Beckett Street, Bossier City in the conference room to discuss Young Adult (YA) book, “Tamar” by Mal Peet. YA coordinator Tonya Oswalt will lead the discussion. Starting August 9th the La Leche League will sponsor a tri-fold exhibit in the main library with information about breastfeeding your baby.
