BPCC offers free tuition for manufacturing program

Free tuition for the Certified Manufacturing Specialist™ program is now available through Bossier Parish Community College’s Workforce Development and Continuing Education Department.

Students can enroll now for classes beginning Aug. 24 - Dec. 7.  The class will meet from 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.

The Certified Manufacturing Specialist™ training program, designed by industry-training professionals, provides workers with skills necessary to obtain a job with Louisiana’s manufacturing companies.

This 166-hour curriculum is comprised of manufacturing organizational principles, workforce skills, production requirements, and automated manufacturing skills.

Students will learn precision measurement and critical thinking to computer technology and plant safety, along with interpersonal skills such as decision-making and managing change.

“This course will provide students with the skill set to be a productive employee in any manufacturing environment,” says Don Brummett, course instructor.  “Students completing this course will have a strong advantage when applying for manufacturing jobs.”

Lisa Wargo, Dean of Workforce Development and Continuing Education at Bossier Parish Community College, says this program is just one of the many opportunities BPCC’s Workforce Development Department offers the community.

“The CMS™ program will give manufacturing workers in Northwest Louisiana who might be in need of training the ability to update their skills or retrain them for the manufacturing industry.

This will in turn provide a more attractive workforce not only our existing Louisiana companies but also for those companies looking to locate here.”

Tuition for the Certified Manufacturing Specialist™ training program is free after students complete a free work skills assessment.

Individuals passing the work skills assessment will qualify for the Certified Manufacturing Specialist™ course.  A $30 registration fee will be required for course admittance.  Space is limited.
