Thank you Governor, legislature for funding I-49 North PDF Print E-mail
Written by State Rep. Henry Burns
Wednesday, 28 July 2010

Dear Editor:

The citizens of northwest Louisiana, coupled with all citizens of Louisiana have a reason to be hopeful. During this time of economic uncertainty, the Louisiana Legislature and -our Governor Bobby Jindal have given their support to completing I-49 North by providing funding through H.B. 2.

It is my opinion as Chairman of the 1-49 Funding and Feasability Task Force, that the key to this funding was due to the resolve and hard work of many individuals, groups and organizations through the years.

Without question, the N.W. Legislative Delegation, standing firmly together and united in spirit, designated I-49 North as it’s number one economic impact project. Many regions where not united but our enthusiasm and unrelenting support to finish I-49 North was the resounding catalyst that secured funds from a very limited pool of funds.

Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover and Bossier City Mayor Lo Walker and their cities respective Chambers of Commerce provided continuous and proactive support.

In the future, I look forward to working with all interested parties that are dedicated to seeing this project completed.
Mr. Bob Gorman of Tango Transport and Chairman of the I-49 Coalition probably said it best — “Finishing I-49 will fashion N.W. Louisiana into one of the most important transportation. centers in our country, which will benefit all of the citizens and I-49 will also bring growth, employment and prosperity.”

I would like to thank all that have given so much over the years, because of you and your efforts, I-49 is becoming a reality. Governor Jindal is committed to finishing I-49 and with a united delegation, I honestly believe that this North/South Interstate will soon connect the shipping and transportation assets of this great country .

In. closing, I promise to pursue and persevere until the job is done.

State Rep. Henry Burns
District 9
