Written by Press-Herald Staff
Wednesday, 28 July 2010

Funeral services for Ary D. Wilson Bailey will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 29, 2010 at Mt. Calm Baptist Church.

Burial will follow at Walker Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. today, July 28, 2010 at Benevolent Funeral Home.

I, Ary D. Wilson was born Dec. 22, 1919 to Dave Wilson and Ida Wilson in Gibsland. I was the second child of six children.

At an early age, I united with Springville Baptist Church (called Wilson Church at that time). I worked faithfully until moving to Minden in 1942. I then united with Mt.  Calm Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. P.L. Harris. I have always been actively involved in the church organizations and activities. I was assistant secretary of Mt. Calm Baptist Church for more than 40 years, president of Willing Workers Ministry, secretary of Golden Years Ministry, secretary of the Sunday school class, and I kept the bulletin board up to date for many years. I was also a member of Mt. Calm Funeral Committee.

My educational training included elementary and high school in Gibsland, B.S. degree from Grambling College (now Grambling State University in Grambling). I also completed courses from U.S.C. in Los Angeles.

My memberships in organizations are Louisiana Retired Teacher Association and National Education Association. I retired from the Webster Parish School Board after teaching 33 years.

October 24, 1942, I was united in holy matrimony to Floyd Bailey who precedes me in death.

Floyd and I helped to rear a niece, Frances A. Frances, who was very dear to us. After Floyd’s death, she continued to live with me until graduating high school. She helped me in many ways. Years later, I reared my five-year-old nephew, Lawrence Wilson. He never forgot his aunt. He has always been there for me. I have two godsons who I have loved very much, Wayne Walton and Nakia Shun Moore. I will leave other loved ones behind.

I leave to mourn my sweet memories two sisters, Mollie King of Houston and Leotha Coleman of Los Angeles; one brother, Dave Wilson of Brementon, Washington; one step-sister, Rosa Mae Wafer of Los Angeles; a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, family friends, neighbors, Mt. Calm Church familiy and UCAP family.
