The 2nd Bistineau Task Force (BTF) meeting was held July 15 at the Webster Parish Courthouse in Minden. In this meeting, the Dorcheat and Bodcau SWCD Resolutions were presented and officers were elected. They were Billy Montgomery – chairman; Steve Ramsey – vice chairman; and Glenn Benton – treasurer.
Afterwards, Mark McElroy (LWDF) commented that all but one of the gates on Lake Bistineau were closed the previous day to allow the lake water level to rise. However, he was concerned that this might cause a fish kill due to oxygen depletion from the large amount of decaying vegetation around the lake. Furthermore, data collection for Lake Bistineau was discussed and highly favored for its usefulness, not only to the task force but to partners, such as Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, as well. Next, the new BTF web page was reviewed and commented on by all of the members. To access this new webpage, go to www. Trailblazer.org, then click on Bistineau TF for more information and updates on the BTF and Lake Bistineau. In addition, there is a place for the public to voice their concerns and comments. Members present at this meeting were Shannon Mendenhall and Elmore Morris (Bodcau SWCD), Charlie Walker, Jim Bonsall and Steve Ramsey (Webster Parish Police Jury), David Lowe and Rick Yager (Dorcheat SWCD), Glenn Benton and Billy Montgomery (Bossier Parish Police Jury), Greg Wilson (Bienville Parish Police Jury), and George McConathy (Saline SWCD). Also present were Mark McElroy and James Seales (LWDF), Ellzey Simmons and Olivia Ward (Trailblazer RC&D), Ronda Carnahan (Webster Parish Police Jury), Paul Roland (Webster Parish), Henry Burns (9th District), and Dotti Hortman (Legislative Asst. to H. Burns). Views: 326
