Fine living and shopping mingle and mix off Hwy. 80 The sounds of Italian Opera filled the air to mark the groundbreaking of Villaggio, a commercial/residential development on Hwy. 80 near Bossier Parish Community College. Kristen Chambers and Tim Bostwick of the Shreveport Opera broke out in song to kick off the ceremony. Local developer John Good quipped about not asking the City of Bossier City for any money to help with the development. “I told the mayor that we weren’t asking for a dime, and he said ‘We’re behind you 100 percent,”” Good said.
Good also developed the Louisiana Boardwalk with economic development help from the city.
Villaggio will consist of single and multi-family housing, approximately 55,000 square feet of retail space, Lake Villaggio, the Promenade, all which can be accessed on foot, or by driving with all internal parking. “This will be designed and built with families in mind,” Good said. The entire project will be settled on 64 acres between Interstate 20 and U.S. Hwy. 80. Its signature feature will be a 45-foot clocktower and a five-acre lake offering paths for recreation and running as well as connecting the entire project. A variety of restaurants, small sidewalk cafes and cart vendors will line the sidewalks and add to the sense of “village” Good is hoping to achieve. One the dirt was turned and the ceremony ended, dirt moving equipment immediately went back to work on Villaggio. Good said Bossier City is primed for big things, and he hopes this new development will become just one more destination to bring people to Bossier City, both to visit and to live. Good was also the driving force behind the Stonebridge development, and said his love for Bossier City and the ever present growth make it the perfect place for his latest project. The new mixed-use development will be the first of its kind in Bossier, and Good said the unique blend of commercial and residential uses will fit the needs of people at all different stages in their lives, whether it’s the young couple with children, the young professional, or the couple ready for retirement. Good said he traveled the country looking at different developments to come up with the perfect blend for Bossier City. The $80 million project is scheduled to open with the first tenants and residents in the summer of 2008.
