Mr. Calloway, “Little Ike,” as he was known in his younger years, was born on October 10, 1981, in McIntyre, to the late Ike Calloway Sr. and Annie L. Applewhite and died June 10, in Shreveport. He was the fifth of six Children.
He worked as a service station attendant, Minden policeman, road crossing guard and other jobs. But what he loved most was singing for the Lord.
He was raised in the McIntyre community where he united with the St. Matthew C.M.E. Church.
As he grew older it didn’t matter what church or what the denomination as long as he was able to sing, and sing with all his heart.
He sang with different groups in the area such as the Minden Soul Stirrers, the True Tone Gospel Singers, The Bells of Love, Ike Calloway and the Ikette’s and others.
In latter years he was a solo singer.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ike Sr. and Annie L.; three sisters, Birdel, Mary and and Josie; two brothers, Ary and Eugene.
He is survived by three children, Bruce David Chatman of Charlslette, N.C., Raymond Jackson of Tyler, Texas, and Tracy Bernard Mims of Minden; one sister, Mary Richardson of Shreveport; three nieces; one special niece, Willie Mae Calloway Gavin of Minden; and one nephew. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, six great-nephews, two great-nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.
