Airline wrestlers no match for New Orleans Catholic powerhouse in 58-15 drubbing

Airline’s Vikings are the best high school wrestling team in North Louisiana, and had a perfect record against all Louisiana opponents going into Wednesday night’s dual meet with Brother Martin of New Orleans.

But they were no match for the Crusaders, who forfeited two matches but still coasted to  a 58-15 victory.

Airline’s only victory on the mat came in the heavyweight division. Arron Mikesh scored a 9-3 victory over Engro, the Martin heavyweight as Mikesh improved his season record to 14-5.

Two Vikings who won by forfeits are John Pope (103) and Tony Hoff (215).

It was the 13th forfeit win for Pope, who has a 14-4 season record although he is one-of-five on the mat.

Hoff is 16-3 for the season, with six forfeit wins.

Airline’s Scott Hooper suffered his first loss of the season in the 171-pound division as Brandon Dussouy beat Cooper 6-1. The Viking standout, who was selected “Outstanding Wrestler” in the Evangel Christmas Classic, took an 18-1 record into a Saturday tournament at West Plano, TX.

Airline’s Aaron Caskey dropped to 16-3 with a 9-1 loss.

Matt Rabinowitz moved up to 112 pounds and was six seconds away from the 17th win of his sophomore season.

But Richardson snatched victory from the jaws of defeat with a 7-4 comeback win as he got a reversal and put Rabinowitz, who was 33-4 last year (fourth in state meet) and is 14-3 this year, on his back.
